Yesterday was the second event of Roehampton University's social programme: a day trip to Dover, Kent. I was particularly excited for this trip because I knew that we were going to have the opportunity to see the White Cliffs of Dover.
We left campus by coach at 9:30am and drove 4 hours to get to Kent. Thankfully, the weather held up nicely which allowed for a beautiful, sunny day. Our first stop was the White Cliffs. It was spectacular. I remember reading poems about these cliffs in English class, learning about the historical evens that took place here, and studying the calcium that these cliffs were made up of. It was so surreal to see what I've only heard and read about in classes. After seeing the cliffs, we stopped for lunch in a small town. Kaylee and I walked over to a gorgeous beach near the wharf and took some pictures. Once everyone made it back onto the coach after lunch, we headed to Dover Castle to do some sightseeing. The castle was originally built in 1060 and was sieged in 1250! It reminded me a lot of Lord Farquad's castle from the movie Shrek. Once we finished walking the castle grounds, we headed back to campus, thus ending our day trip to Dover.
